What's New: IE9 Will Require Windows 7 SP1
Microsoft confirmed that the upcoming Internet Explorer version 9 will require a not-yet-released service pack to be installed on Windows 7 in order to install the new web browser. Until now Microsoft had indicated a service pack for Windows 7 would only include a rollup of existing fixes.
Microsoft previously said that IE9 will require Windows Vista to have Service Pack 2 installed, and that IE9 will not run on Windows XP, its most common yet 9 year old operating system.
