What's New: Free Office 2010 Upgrade Confirmed
Microsoft's CFO confirmed that the company will offer a free upgrade period for anyone purchasing Office 2007. As we reported last month, Microsoft does not plan to offer upgrade pricing from Office 2007 to Office 2010, so this may be the sole opportunity to upgrade at a discount. Customers purchasing Office Home and Student will receive Office Home and Student 2010, those with Office Standard 2007 will receive Office Home and Business 2010, and those with either Office Small Business or Office Professional would receive a free copy of Office Professional 2010. The free upgrades would be provided via download, with an option to order a DVD.
Microsoft has not officially announced dates of the upgrade period, but rumors floated last month said that purchases of qualifying products between March 5 and September 30 would be eligible. Microsoft expects to ship Office 2010 in June.
