What's New: FCC Approves WiMax Card
The first PC Card designed to let laptops take advantage of WiMax wide area wireless networks has been approved by the FCC and should be available to purchase later this year. WiMax is similar to Wi-Fi networking but the range is measured in miles rather than yards. Clearwire, the company that developed the card, estimates city users will see ranges of about one to three miles. WiMax is also faster than the typical Wi-Fi connection, promising high speed broadband in a portable environment.
