What's New: Facebook Tattles On Gift Giving
Thousands of Facebook users are complaining that gift purchases - even those not made through Facebook - are visible on their profiles. Facebook is a social networking site, and recently introduced a feature where partners tell Facebook exactly what was purchased, such as book titles, TV model numbers, or tickets to an event, unless the user opts out during checkout. Facebook then lists the purchase on the member's news feed, which is visible to others. Users complain that the new service is telling others what holiday gifts have been purchased.
Update: Facebook has decided to make this service opt-in, so its users must choose to make purchases visible.
