What's New: Changes In Office 2010 Licensing, Strategy Include Starter Edition
When Microsoft releases Office 2010 in the first half of next year, it will incorporate several changes including a new Starter edition. Microsoft Office Starter 2010 is intended as a replacement for Microsoft Works, and will include "basic functionality" for creating, editing, and viewing Word and Excel documents. Starter will be free but ad-driven. Users will have the option to upgrade to a full version of Office
The other three retail editions, Office Home & Student 2010, Office Home & Business 2010, and Office Professional 2010, will be preloaded on new PCs and retailers will sell a key card consumers can use to unlock the appropriate version. The key card will not come with DVD media.
