What's New: New Notebook Platform Leaps Ahead

Long considered in second place to Intel's notebook platforms, AMD answered back in late May with a new specialized CPU and chipset, promising high performance and much longer battery life. AMD announced its new, totally redesigned Griffin processor and Puma chipset will provide a new generation of power saving features. AMD's system can dynamically adjust power usage and speed of the dual-core CPU, HyperTransport 3 bus, and more in a single CPU clock cycle - an achievement previously unheard of. This means that in theory a laptop will be able to adjust its power usage millions of times per second, throttling up and down as the user presses keys.
