What's New: 9 Million Infected PCs for Conficker Worm
Security firms are now estimating as many as 9 million PCs have been infected by variants of the Conflicker/Downadup worm, up from just 3.5 million the week before. Microsoft released patches in October via Windows Update to fix the vulnerability in everything from Windows 2000 to Windows Server 2008, but one third of PCs remain unpatched.
In addition, the January updates issued by Microsoft include fixing a vulnerability in the basic networking protocol which would allow any one infected PC inside a corporate network to potentially infect all other PCs just by sending malformed network packets.
