What's New: New Pest Targets Mobile Phones
A new malware program named RedBrowser is designed to send SMS messages to a premium number, costing users around $5 per message. The software presents itself as something that will make it easier to browse web sites on a victim's phone. So far the program targets mobile phone users in Russia but may be a "proof of concept."
RedBrowser is the "first mobile malware that tries to steal money," according to a director of antivirus vendor F-Secure. It is also the first to target a large audience: over 1 billion phones have been shipped with Sun's J2ME - Java software for mobile devices.
