What's New: 73 Mbps From New Celluar Technology

A new celluar broadband technology planned for 2008 will support download speeds of up to 73.5 Mbps, around 30 times faster than current speeds. The new standard will also support upload speeds of up to 27 Mbps.

The main competitor to the new CDMA2000 EV-DO Revision B standard is WCDMA, used by many GSM cellular networks. WCDMA currently supports 384 Kbps speeds but upgrades are planned for 2006 to support from 10 to 20 Mbps, with 100 Mbps possible in the future before "fourth generation" celluar networks appear next decade.
