What's New: Microsoft Tags Sony XCP As Spyware
Microsoft has decided to label Sony's controversial XCP music copy protection software as a threat in its Microsoft AntiSpyware product. Sony has come under heavy criticism for using "rootkit" cloaking techniques normally associated with pests and viruses to hide XCP and make it difficult to remove. Microsoft will also include removal signatures in its next monthly Malicious Software Removal utility, downloadable via Windows Update.
