What's New: AMD Launches Athon64 X2 Dual-Core CPUs
Close on the heels of Intel's recent annoucement, AMD today launched its dual-core Athlon64 CPU, dubbed "X2." The Athlon 64 X2 is hardware-compatible with many motherboards for AMD's single-core Athlon 64 chip, although current boards will require a minor BIOS upgrade. This makes upgrading an existing system relatively simple, and vendor migration to dual-core CPUs easier.
Power users who like to have many programs running at once, or busy servers, will benefit most from a dual-core CPU.
