What's New: 10 Gigabit Ethernet Official
The IEEE has ratified a standard for 10 Gigabit Ethernet, ten times faster than today's networks and 100 times faster than the common 100Base-TX standard. 802.3an requires Category 6 cabling but will run on twisted-pair copper wire as opposed to fiber optic.
