What's New: Open Document Format ISO Approved
The International Standards Organization formally approved the Open Document Format for Office Applications, or ODF. Supported by IBM and Sun, among others, ODF is the first international standard file format for "office" desktop applications like Sun's StarOffice, the free OpenOffice suite, and, founders hope, eventually Microsoft's Office suite and others.
The news is expected to boost adoption of competitors to Microsoft Office, especially in Europe and other areas where ISO standards are often favored.
