Why does my new USB device not work?
One frequent reason is a low power situation. USB devices can draw power from the host computer, or from a separate AC transformer. Some PCs have a power supply that cannot provide large amounts of power of the type used by USB devices. In this case the power supply must be replaced, or an externally powered USB hub may be added and devices connected to it instead of directly to the computer. Power-hungry devices can include products such as scanners and digital cameras, but requirements vary with each device.
