When connecting to your VPS server to perform administrative tasks you should always connect using a secure protocol (such as SSH, SFTP, or SCP). Direct connections using the root user are not allowed. A guide listing below is provided with the most common protocols and which users to use for that service.

VPS Service Users (What users can log into this service)
SSH
  • Administrative User
  • Any user with shell privileges
  • Root User, if using SSH keys (disallowed if using passwords)
Telnet

We strongly discourage the use of Telnet service since passwords and all other information is transmitted insecurely. SSH is a secure alternative.
