Why should I use a statistics program?
Statistic programs can provide you with valuable information about your web site. They can also help you determine what type of traffic your site is receiving and they can show where you can make improvements to the overall design of your site.
What type of data can I capture by using a statistical report program?
Statistic programs can produce detailed reports containing extensive analysis about your web site and about the visitors who access your site. Some of the main features include, but are not limited to, the following categories:
- Visitor Information
- Access Times and Dates
- Individual Page Statistics
- Referred Sites
- Browsers Used
- Errors
Which statistics program is enabled for my account?
Urchin 5.x - As it provides you with the most detailed statistical summaries and because it is the most adept at handling large amounts of data, ITS has selected Urchin as your statistics package.
How frequently are my statistics updated?
Statistics are updated approximately every 24 hours, in the early morning to reduce impact on your web server. For example, if your statistics were last updated at 4:30 a. m. Central Standard Time (CST), the next update would take place at 4:30 a. m. on the following day.
Please note one effect of this is that statistics for the current day will always appear lower that the actual values since there were only a few hours counted between midnight and 4:30 a.m. Statistics will update overnight and appear correctly when viewed the following day.
How do I view my statistics on my account?
Browse to http://www.yourdomain/urchin/. Your site's usage statistics are secured by default so you will need to enter your account user ID and password.

Do my web site's log files count toward my disk quota?
Yes, however the current log files are rotated daily and only the previous 10 days' worth are kept online, in compressed format. Statistics for your site are kept far longer.
