What's New: Windows Server 2008 Foundation Targeted Towards Small Business
Today Microsoft introduced Windows Server 2008 Foundation, an inexpensive version of Windows Server 2008 intended for small businesses. Unlike Small Business Server, Windows Server 2008 Foundation is limited to 15 users (at no additional charge), and does not include features such as Microsoft's Exchange e-mail server. In essence it is an entry-level system that provides a starting point other than Windows Vista or the forthcoming Windows 7. Foundation will also support applications that run on Windows Server Standard, such as backup software, as well as Terminal Services connections for remote users.
Windows Server 2008 Foundation will be available in the second half of 2009 but will only be available pre-installed on a new server. Microsoft expects these servers to sell for around or under $1,000.
