What's New: Microsoft Releases Critical Server Patch
This week Microsoft released a patch that is critical for any Internet-facing Remote Desktop server or computer. For example, Terminal Servers and office PCs that users connect to from home could be affected. The exploit allows a remote user to either crash the computer or obtain access (take it over).
Today the finder of the bug released his exploit proof-of-concept code, which should greatly accelerate malware programmers' efforts to exploit it. Therefore we recommend all computers be patched. ITS is already handling computers for all ITS TeamCare clients; others should install KB2621440 and/or KB2667402, as prompted by Windows Update. A restart is necessary after the update is installed.
