What's New: Windows XP After June 30
Officially, Windows XP will no longer be available for purchase from Microsoft for general retail and OEM partners as of June 30, 2008, however, Windows XP will be available preinstalled from ITS until January 31, 2009. This is because ITS is a Microsoft "System Builder" partner.
Some retail stores and large "OEM Partners" such as HP and Dell may offer an option for "downgrade rights" for users who purchase new PCs that contain Windows Vista. The availability and cost of downgrade rights may vary by model as well as manufacturer, however.
