What's New: 1 Billion Downloads For Firefox
Mozilla's Firefox web browser passed one billion downloads this morning, a laudable achievement for a program that has only existed for a few years. That figure counts all copies of all versions of the software, so if a user downloads a newer version instead of waiting for the automatic upgrade, that is counted as a second download.
Even though Internet Explorer ships with every Windows PC, Firefox has almost one-third of the global web browser market. Firefox was originally released in 2004 as the successor to Mozilla's eponymous web browser, which in turn was based on Netscape Navigator.
